Where were you when I broke the skin?
Or when you told me you weren’t with him?
I never knew and I never will
You just tell me the things that I want to hear
So there’s a notion of lies, it lies between you and I
And we walk all upon it like Jesus Christ
And I’ve said before so I’ll say it again
The more you cross me the less I forgive you
How do you find that you could simplify
A quarrel by which was dealt with silence
With nothing more but keeping quiet?
Never did quite get that logic
So again and again, there a benevolent limb
Left hanging out in the cold without a hand there to hold
And its the circle were in, can’t find a way to admit when we’re wrong
Now don’t you go on telling anybody anything
You’re gonna lose
End up holdin’ on to all it was that you lost
I’ve never done the things I now have done
Before to myself or to somebody else
I guess that’s just how it goes when you’re young and you grow
With someone with you to push and to pull
Why you always run when the run gets rough?
Sometimes you just gotta go, yeah you just gotta go, I know
And maybe it all just feels a little too close
But baby don’t you forget what you love the most
Now don’t you go on telling anybody anything
You’re gonna lose
End up holdin’ on to all it was that you lost
You left me hanging, left me hanging on a memory
One of you
Can’t help but to think I’m not the only one
Never really mattered anyway
Spent all my time, hoping everything would work out right
Really was for nothing at all seeing it all now
As you take your place in the past
You walk over wet cement
Now I’m stuck retracing the steps you took to forget
Don’t you go on telling anybody anything
You’re gonna lose
Ended up losing you
Musically this feels more experimental for La Dispute reminding me of their Here, Hear releases. Very atmospheric and easy to lose your self in. Perfect for the next time you’re contemplating your existence. (Also found out the guitarist builds his own pedals and used them on this record; neato!) Mikey
If you've ever had to Google clumsy phrases to find a word that matched a feeling you could only feebly describe, and you ended up discovering words like hiraeth, sehnsucht, or saudade, The Million Masks of God may be an excellent companion soundtrack to your experience. joel
